Early Years Blog 2024/25

This week we have started learning our sounds and we have been singing along to the Song of Sounds each morning and learning the actions.  We have learnt the phonemes s, a, t and p. We have loved playing games to reinforce these sounds, we have looked for them in the environment and had a go at writing them on the interactive whiteboard.  

This week in maths we have been looking at sorting and matching pictures and objectives and identifying sets. We learnt about the 5's frame which is a resource which helps us count and we also learnt the word subitise - meaning to know how many without counting! We enjoyed working in small groups and playing maths games.

We have loved exploring all the areas with the children this week. The meadow has been very popular. We were very excited when a huge tractor came to cut the hedge, we talked around the orange flashy lights and the arm which extended out from the side. We also picked lots of blackberries in the meadow and we talked about the mushrooms we found and how to be safe around them. 

 This week we introduced the message centre to the children, we used secret symbols to send messages to each other and we loved hiding and finding notes around the classroom. The teacher's wellies were almost full of secret notes! We even had a visit from Spider-Man who left us a secret message around the classroom so we sent him some secret messages back. 

This week we have had so much fun exploring our new environment. We have made dinner in 'Tiny Town' and looked at books in 'Story Kingdom'  We learnt the names of the areas in the classroom and were excited to hear about Dojos - our reward system for collecting points.  We met Croc and played sound sound talk games and have joined in with maths rhymes and singing using our class rhyme bag. Mrs Yardley popped by to say hello and read us a story.  The dinner hall was very exciting, we met the dinner ladies and enjoyed eating and talking with our friends. At lunchtime we played in Wonderland on the big field!  We look forward to Monday when all the children will be in together.
