This week in phonics we have learnt the sounds j,v,w and x. We have played lots of games to help us learn these new sounds. We have also learnt the tricky word was and have enjoyed hunting for that word in the environment.
This week in maths we have been thinking about the number pairs which make 5, we have looked at recording using number sentences and have started to learn how to write the numerals to 5.
This week we have been learning about one more and one less than a number to 5. We are enjoying starting our maths lessons with a story. We have enjoyed The Very Hungry Caterpillar, 5 currant buns and Handa's Surprise. The children help secure their learning by repeating stem sentences such "1 more than 2 is 3" or "1 less than 5 is 4"
This week in phonics, the children had a fantastic time learning ‘tricky words’ — words that don’t follow typical phonics rules. The children loved searching for the hidden word stickers and practising them as they found each one. We also made ‘tricky word watches’ that they could wear to reinforce their reading throughout the day, and played tricky word games.
