Week 4 maths measures and patterns

This week in maths we have been learning about measures and patterns. We have compared size, mass and capacity of different objects and have explored simple patterns buy observing and then copying them. We have used the language more and fewer and have been repeating special stem sentences to help us secure our learning - such as  - The is bear bigger/smaller than the table. 

We shared the books Where’s My Teddy? by Jez Alborough  and It’s the Bear! by Jez Alborough to help us with our maths learning.

Contrasting countries Japan and China

 This week we have been learning about China in preparation for celebrating Chinese New Year next week. We have looked at famous landmarks in the UK and China, talked about the weather, food, money and animals. The children were so good at spotting things that are the same as our country and things that are very different!  We had a visit from Hannah's mum who talked to us about Japan, it was lovely to hear about another contrasting countries to the UK, we learnt how many things are the same in Japan and a few traditions which are different to ours.

 Week 6 - Painting  This week we learnt how to use paint and brushes. We looked at how we can we transform the surfaces around us by using colour and pattern. While we were painting we talked about the texture and shape of each object, what kinds of tool might we use to paint with and what the colours look like and the marks might we make.
