Science Freezing and melting Week 1

 This week we have been looking at freezing and melting during our topic time, this has coincided perfectly with the very chilly weather we have had! We undertook an experiment on freezing with the children. We took small containers of coloured water with some objects inside and chose where we should put them so the water would freeze. Come children chose the fridge, other chose outside and we put some pots in the freezer. In our adventure time we have enjoyed exploring ice, by trying to melt it or break it up.

Contrasting countries Japan and China

 This week we have been learning about China in preparation for celebrating Chinese New Year next week. We have looked at famous landmarks in the UK and China, talked about the weather, food, money and animals. The children were so good at spotting things that are the same as our country and things that are very different!  We had a visit from Hannah's mum who talked to us about Japan, it was lovely to hear about another contrasting countries to the UK, we learnt how many things are the same in Japan and a few traditions which are different to ours.

 Week 6 - Painting  This week we learnt how to use paint and brushes. We looked at how we can we transform the surfaces around us by using colour and pattern. While we were painting we talked about the texture and shape of each object, what kinds of tool might we use to paint with and what the colours look like and the marks might we make.
